Echocardiography is a non-invasive ultrasound examination of the heart that evaluates heart structure and function. It visualizes heart walls, valves, chambers, and blood flow direction and velocity. A standard transthoracic echo is performed externally via the chest and typically lasts 15–30 minutes.
